About osteopathy
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. Osteopaths work with the body structure and function, adhering to the principle that the well being of an individual is dependent upon the skeleton and soft tissues (muscles, ligaments and connective tissues) function well together.
Osteopathic techniques involves the manipulation of joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and other soft tissues. Manipulations aim to achieve a variety of results, i.e. release or mobilise restricted joints and soft tissues, stretch and relieve tight muscles, stimulate or calm tissues.e.g. neurological tissues, increase blood flow or facilitate fluid drainage without the use of drugs or surgery. Osteopaths aim to facilitate your body's own healing mechanisms, whilst offering (where appropriate) exercises and advice to aid recovery, promote health and prevent the symptoms recurring.
Cranial osteopathy is a safe and effective gentle technique used to treat adults as well as children. It involves a gentle approach to the release of tension, stress and physical strain patterns. A highly developed sense of touch called palpation is used to detect problem area's, subtle hand movements are then used to manipulate specific tissues throughout the body.

Kelly's Background
Kelly Mckay qualified as an osteopath from the 'British School of Osteopathy' in London in 2001 gaining a 'Bachelor of Science Degree'. Since this time Kelly has been registered with the 'General Osteopathic Council' and has successfully completed postgraduate certificates in 'Osteopathy in the Cranial Field', 'Visceral Osteopathy', as well as completing a further two years postgraduate training in 'Paediatric Osteopathy', advancing her knowledge and skills in the treatment of children and pregnancy related dysfunctions.
Since qualifying as an osteopath, Kelly has practiced in several multi-disciplinary clinics throughout London. Although Kelly has undergone specialist training and gained much experience treating mothers and babies, she has also treated a range of patients with a wide variety of conditions. In 2005, Kelly became involved in a pioneering treatment using cranial osteopathic techniques in tandem with experienced homeopathic practitioners. This unique dual practitioner approach offers patients (often with chronic deep seated strain patterns) a powerful alternative treatment. The combined expertise of two practitioners working in tandem offers the opportunity of treatment from a completely new standpoint.
Kelly's background and training have allowed her to draw upon a range of skills, from gentle 'cranial osteopathic' techniques (the approach often used in the treatment of children), traditional 'joint manipulations' and 'mobilisations' as well as a range of soft tissue/massage techniques. Prior to practicing osteopathy, Kelly trained and worked as a massage therapist, swimming instructor and fitness trainer. Kelly has integrated her knowledge and skills to enhance her approach to treating dys-function and dis-ease.
Kelly is motivated by meeting the needs of each patient, expanding their understanding and their belief in the potential to achieve a positive outcome, whilst providing an effective and pleasurable treatment experience.
